About

Kim Marier

Kim’s special interests include Orofacial Myology, swallowing, voice, apraxia of speech, Autism and speech and language development. Kim has a Master of Science degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Following graduation in 2006, Kim worked as Speech-Language Pathologist in the hospital setting, especially working with adults after strokes and brain injuries primarily treating dysphagia, aphasia, and cognition. She switched to primarily working in pediatrics in 2015. Kim is proud that she has worked with ages 1-105 years old, in a variety of settings, and with a diverse variety of diagnoses. Through this work, and her own health journey, she has developed a strong interest in treating clients, thinking more holistically. This has prompted her to be International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM) trained. She enjoys myofunctional therapy because it helps think of the 'big picture' - for one example, how one's airway/breathing, tongue position and jaw development are related to speech sound errors and difficulty swallowing. It's neat seeing how working on oral function skills can help other speech skills and the progress. Outside of work, Kim loves spending time with her husband, family, friends, and animals doing activities such as goat yoga, traveling, singing, kayaking, biking, and hiking.
