Occupational therapy is the therapeutic use of work, play, and self-care activities to increase development and facilitate functional independence.
Therapy Associates provides therapy for children needing help with self-help skills, keeping daily routines along with completing age expected motor and visual tasks.
AREAS AN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST CAN ADDRESS:
Assessment & treatment of upper extremity, strength, range of motion, motor imitation of large muscle movements and coordinated use of both sides of the body.
Assessment & treatment of the small muscle movements of the wrist and hand. This includes coordinated use of muscles for manipulating fasteners, use of tools such as pencils, crayons, scissors, forks and knives.
Assessment & treatment of how a body receives, processes & responds to information in the environment. Therapists will develop strategies to improve responses to touch/sound/visual input, improve motor planning & body awareness; as well as strategies to facilitate increased self-awareness & self-regulation.
Therapists will address increasing independence in self-care skills such as dressing and teeth brushing. Our therapists may also develop strategies for increased attention to task, task initiation & completion, and transitions..
Our therapists will address increasing food tolerances and choices for the resistant eater. Please see Food School page with more information.
Therapists can assess & treat coordinated use of eyes & hands together for skills related to handwriting, copying patterns & shapes, completing puzzles and throwing/catching a ball.
If your child has difficulty speaking clearly, forming sentences, or understanding language compared to other children their age, speech therapy may help.
Signs that your child may benefit from occupational therapy may include trouble holding a pencil, difficulty with coordination, or challenges completing daily tasks. Concerns from teachers, daycare providers, or pediatricians about your child's development are also good reasons to consider an evaluation.
Our therapists will conduct a full evaluation to determine your child's specific needs and recommend a personalized plan.
Many insurance plans cover therapy, but coverage depends on your policy. Contact your insurance provider or our office for assistance in understanding your benefits.
Yes.
An evaluation at Therapy Associates includes a one-on-one meeting with one of our therapists. During that time, we will evaluate your child’s skills and work with you to learn about their strengths and challenges. Based on the results, our team will develop a tailored therapy plan for your child.
The duration of therapy varies based on your child's needs, goals, and progress. Regular assessments will be made to help determine when your child has achieved their therapy goals.
